The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday (March 1) began his three-day tour of Uttar Pradesh with a roadshow from the party’s Kaushambi (Ghaziabad) office.
Accompanied by party leaders Manish Sisodia, Illias Azmi and Sanjay Singh along with a large number of party volunteers and supporters in a cavalcade of vehicles, Kejriwal embarked on a 500 kilometres journey by road.
Throughout the day, people were lined up at many places to meet the AAP leaders and listen to them. The roadshow passed through Hapur, Moradabad, Rampur and Bareilly, among other places. Overwhelming response in these areas forced Kejriwal and other party leaders to accept their greetings in an open jeep whenever the cavalcade passed through towns and villages. The AAP leaders stopped at around 25 places to meet people and at some places Kejriwal addressed the supporters and public.
In his speeches, Kejriwal spoke about the party’s success in Delhi and the achievements of the AAP government during the month and a half it was in office in the national capital. He also asked the people to teach a lesson to the parties which had indulged in rampant corruption in Uttar Pradesh over the decades. Kejriwal reiterated the AAP’s commitment towards the Janlokpal, the issue on which he resigned as chief minister of Delhi.
Manish Sisodia appealed to the people to negate the perception about Uttar Pradesh in the coming Lok Sabha elections that it is a state divided on caste and communal lines.
The AAP leaders will stop for a night halt at Shahbad in Hardoi district. The roadshow will pass through Hardoi and Unnao districts before entering Kanpur on Sunday, where the party has organised its first rally in Uttar Pradesh. During the three-day tour, Kejriwal and other party leaders will cover 17 parliamentary constituencies in this round, before returning to Delhi on Monday evening.
