Chandigarh, March 12 Bollywood actress and social activist Gul Panag, who is all set to contest on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ticket from the Chandigarh seat, has stated that there is no point in sitting on the sidelines and cribbing.
Replying to her followers on Twitter, who had asked her why she wanted to join politics, Gul Panag wrote, "How long can one sit on the sidelines and crib?"On contesting from the City Beautiful on the AAP ticket, she tweeted, "It will be an honour to represent Chandigarh. I have applied for the ticket and am waiting for the party's decision. If it is a yes, I need your support."
Emphasising that she is not a celebrity but an aam aadmi, she wrote, "As aam as you. I will do my best."
Gul Panag is the daughter of Lt Gen HS Panag (retd), who had recently joined the AAP. Meanwhile, AAP leader Manish Sisodia is coming to city tomorrow to announce her candidature for the Chandigarh seat. Sources in the AAP said Sisodia would hold a party workers' meeting in Sector 21 and thereafter announce Gul Panag's candidature in her presence.
The city unit of the party has received a call from the party head office in Delhi about Sisodia's meeting in the Sector 21 party office.
Tough task ahead for her
It will be tough for Gul Panag to contest on the AAP ticket from the Chandigarh seat, especially after Savita Bhatti's decision to withdraw her candidature. Panag has a big challenge of uniting the city unit of the AAP, which is divided into groups.
250 had applied for the ticket
Around 250 people had applied for the AAP ticket for the Chandigarh seat. Of them, 31 were shortlisted. Seven were called for interview to Delhi, but none of them was selected. After the announcement of Savita Bhatti's name, there was resentment among AAP workers. Finally, Bhatti had withdrawn her candidature.
